Explore Learn Record iNaturalist helps you record your observations from the natural world and contribute them to iNaturalist.org, a social network for naturalists. KEEP TRACK iNaturalist lets you keep a log of the plants and animals you`ve ...
Ive been using iNaturalist personally and professionally for about two years now and it just keeps getting better A must for anyone curious about the natural world or anyone interested in citizen science Love love love this app
Another neat social network nature exploration app Its great that others are able to use the app and help identify findings Hands on Learning
I really like this app Awsome
Update The vanishing observation issue had to do with flagging an item as not wild or naturalized and after a good long while we got a hand from support With that straightened out it is a much better app it gets four stars instead of five because the UI is a little inconsistent from the App to the Webpage and other aspects are a little quirky but workable Original 25 Stars This is a pretty neat app and the associated web page is interesting and useful Unfortunately both are more than a little buggy including having observations simply disappear off of the maps in the app even though the observation is still present After weeks of backandforth with support they have managed to stall and just flat out evade answering questions about or fixing the problem with the disappearing map link I am a public school secondary science teacher and very interesting in using this with kids to map the schools ecosystem I have unfortunately been unable to start this project due to the database instability Good App Quirky
Im sure this app would be interesting if it actually worked It will not even open on iPhone 6 and iOS 802 Needs to be updated Since last update made app for iPhone 5 and there are now two generations later Meh needs updating
I just wish it had push notification Love it
Ive tried numerous times to connect to Facebook to even get started and it just wont Im starting to think its the app itself though Im not sure I dont really want to make yet another account so Ill keep trying for Facebook Yes Ive made sure it has access in settings Im on an iPod touch 5th generation Facebook
I have used this app for many years now and they keep making it easier to navigate and collect data This is a fantastic app for the citizen scientist Great app for data input
As a former amateur ornithologist and having plenty of opportunity to watch wild life where I live I was really looking forward to an app like this Nevertheless despite my initial enthusiasm I gave up using it after some unnecessary glitches that I mentioned to the programmers a while ago but they didnt bother to correct So for instance if you decide to add an observation by to looking for the species scientific name you will find the species with a picture of it But if you click Add and Save and what you get in your list of observations is not that but a common name of the animal and instead of the picture a symbol of a blue bird Also we could use more fields to add notes of the observations like local common name of the species number of individuals observed description of the behavior at that moment residentseasonal visitorsporadicrare dropbox etc And given the tradition in the naturalist field this program could be linked to a drawing program so the users with artistic skills could illustrate aspects of their observation A great idea but still with poor implementation
Great app but I do not like that I have to upgrade to iOS 5 to use it now iOS 5
This is an amazing app I am always telling my friends and people that I run into about it and how fascinating it is to use There are so many things you can do with it I feel like Ive only scratched the surface of the many possibilities of what you can do with it Highly recommended Amazing idea
I work as an ecologist and also enjoy nature in my free time Until Inaturalist I never had an easy way to keep track of what I found with photos and location This app is very easy and fun to use and allows you to catalog everything you see There is an awesome community and you can also ask for identification help or help others with id Check it out My favorite app ever
Cannot join any projects even though Ive signed up and confirmed my account Looks like a way cool app but nothing but frustration so far Error messages
Love it I uploaded 10 plant images this afternoon and by night they were all identified by other users So cool Awesome
I have a suggestion Have a choice of take a picture or use from photo Library Dont always have a chance at the time you take the shot to record Photos
I cannot speak more highly of this app I use it and inaturalistorg more than any other Take a photo of a living organism or evidence of an organism others give you guidance on the identity of the organism and you learn a lot about nature in the process Its phenomenal THE app for those interested in nature
Ive been using this app for several versions and I LOVE that now I can more easily add multiple photos to an observation by selecting from photos I already took I also think its cool that its versioned for several languages though I only use English Thanks for the improvements Great for the modern naturalist
There is a definite lack of reptile species in North America Lack of reptile species
Great project and Im looking forward to browsing existing posts which no doubt is on the authors list Love this app and the project
Please update for iOS 8 The app wont open Needs to update for iOS 8
I love this site and cant wait to get my grandkids and start a project Wonderful
iNaturalist is a great community both for computer and the phone but the mobile version seems to have much less abilities compared to the website Still worth a download Great app
really amazing App is amazing
So glad I came across this app its so helpful whenever I find random creatures on my adventures Awesome app
This is such a great app Awesome app
Since updating to iOS 8 on both iPhone and iPad the app closes when I select choose existing photo when adding a sighting Needs a fix
Uploaded a few photos and already got some IDs Adding the location is a bit of a pain I prefer using the website search for that But everything else is great Awesome
I dont know how an app that wont open can get through the review process App wont even open
Im loving all of new features Great updates
Very pretty New signup is great
Great app its easy to use and fun Great app
There were minor usability issues before but Ive been relying on it as a mapping tool for a scientific study In iOS 8 it crashes immediately on launch Please fix it Please update it for iOS 8
With iNaturalist you can search locations for specific species post species observation and often get that unknown flowerfungusbird identified by another user This app has helped me identify so many plants that would normally take extensive googling to maybe find If youre interested in the world around you use this app to find out what grows and lives around you Ever wondered what that one plant is
The app crashes the second you open it if you have iOS 802 Doesnt work
This application enables the general public to become citizen scientists and to contribute their observations to the broader body of scientific information Think of this as a social media network of Latin binomials Fabulous idea Game changing app
After hearing that there are very poor records for what insects live in urban areas I downloaded this app and proceeded to document every animal which can be found on my tiny 2500 square foot lot So far I am up to 41 species For plants in the state of California I still prefer the Calflora app For everything else I have been using this one They accept submissions of any living thing so I even pulled out pictures from old vacations and fishing trips to make entries The best thing about this app is it lets you submit creatures you cant ID then let the community identify them This works surprisingly well For example there are two ant species on my property I couldnt identify either I submitted them anyway and within a few hours someone figured out what they are One of the best citizen science apps
Love this app Addictive Brilliantly fun
I love tracking the birds and seals I see around San Francisco and its great to see what you can expect to see either in a different neighborhood or when traveling the country Really wonderful app Great for seeing whats nearby
Revolutionary app Better than Facebook Designer
This was a really great app for citizen science There are a few bugs and glitches but I dont mind at all Great
I studied natural history in college and am an avid lover of nature and its many creatures both the obvious ones and those that get easily overlooked Im currently traveling around MA doing trail work and one of my supervisors introduced me to this app Ive been playing around with it for about a month now Im pretty much addicted to it at this point I love it its a quick and convenient tool to document plants and animals I encounter on my travels Sometimes I know what they are many times I dont but the social network aspect of the app has helped tremendously for identification as knowledgable naturalists have chimed in with their input I would caution users from relying only on other users for ID if you really want to learn though I take the IDs of other users as a starting point to doing my own research in order to confirm that it is correct Another issue I have with this app is that it takes up a ton of space on my phone Since it is synchronized with the larger iNaturalistorg website it would be cool if somehow the images on the app could be stored via cloud or else deleted from the mobile app while retaining the info on the website I love the mobility of the app in the field but I see the online web platform as a more permanent location for storing data and I dont want to have to stop using this app in the field because I have no space left on my phone I am also having trouble with syncing my observations with the project that my supervisor set up I always add the tag to my mobile observations but only some of them show up on the project page This seems to be a problem only on the mobile platform not the web platform Overall I have found the web platform to be much more user friendly and full of helpful features compared to this app but as I said its a brilliant tool to have in the field and its great to be able to sync immediately with the website I give 4 stars only because I think it could be even better If you are willing to do some of your own research and use this app well I think it can serve as a real learning tool and a fun way to keep track of what you see outdoors and share with others Not perfect but excellent app
Really enjoying it Makes me want to become a field scientist
This app is really amazing I like it a lot Great app
