NPR One is the new audio app that connects you to an infinite stream of public radio news and stories curated for you. Great storytelling and rigorous reporting that informs, engages, inspires and surprises from the ...
Had to throttle back usage of the app because I blew past my data limit and had to pay overage Would be nice if there are some settings to control bandwidth usage when outside WiFi coverage              Great but could use some controls for bandwidth
For more than 40 years I have depended on NPR to give me the best news available on nonprinted media This app has the means to deliver this service when I want it where I wanted without interruption As a longterm supporter of NPR I have a means now to enjoy the news I want on my terms I think this app will satisfy those of us who are getting tired of the growing interruption and dilution of the NPR excellent service Well done                 NPR Finally gets it right
Great app                 Great
I am so torn in writing this review When the app works its amazing When the app breaks its horrendous Currently Im in KQED bumper hell Ive forced quit the app and reopened and it plays the bumper over and over and over Gahhhhhhhhhh           Im KQED Bumper Hell
Deleted before I even got to try it Why must you have to create an account just to use the app Dumb     Creating account is stupid
NPR One plays stories continuously from the huge selection of recent content which NPR produces As you listen you can indicate that you found a story interesting to hear more stories like that Dont forget to choose your local station to get local news too Occasionally youll be prompted to press a button on the screen to listen to a longer form investigative reporting piece or youll hear the a traditional NPR as for donations though these are no more annoying than the ones youd hear on the radio Overall the interface is perfect Just open it and it starts playing the catchy NPR One remixed intro and off to the NPR content you presumably if youre looking at this app love Swipe right to look through the next stories you could listen to Swipe left to look at the previous stories Take note though that you do have to login to an account either Google Facebook or a NPR account One caveat if youre listening via Bluetooth and want to indicate you want to listen to one of those longer form pieces you have to grab your phone and hit the button no way to get it running via the Bluetooth controls Similarly there is no way to indicate you liked a story via Bluetooth Suggestions for the devs from the perspective of someone generally listens in the car and wants to avoid taking their eyes off the road 1 A list of the stories I liked to share later 2 For that matter a list of the stories I listened to so I can go through and like or share them later Skips in a separate list 3 A way to indicate you want to listen to a long form story via Bluetooth controls One possible solution it seems to me the back button would be rare to use so let the user indicate they want to hear the story by hitting the back button once One more back will then actually go to the previous story                 The perfect way to listen to NPR
I really like that this is essentially NPR on demand but when I put in a certain show that I know exists the app stumbles says I have stumped it Pls improve the search function           pls improve this app
I love everything NPR is doing with NPR One Its a great way to listen to public radio but this app desperately needs to be optimized for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus              Great app but needs to be optimized for iPhone 6
Delivers me my local NPR station national stories and NPRs best programs from around the country no matter where I am This is my goto app in the morning and the fact that I can get the same news and story content no matter where in the country Im traveling is great Dont miss out and remember to support NPR                 One of my favorite apps
The hourly news update is great and the content is superb First really great audio newspodcast app                 Thank you NPR
I was a big fan of the app when I launched it in the past it would always start with the latest hourly new summary but for a couple of weeks now that summary is nowhere to be found Please bring it back or create a setting so I can always start with it Thank you              What happened to the Hourly News Summary
I love npr and this app but at least once a day it fouls up skipping like an old stereo with a scratched record This will lasts for at least an hour It continues even if I uninstall the app and reinstall I have iPhone 6 and it does the same on my old iPhone 5 PLEASE help ASAP           Love this app but doesnt work well
I love using this app but its frustrating when it constantly crashes Most of the time it crashes if I pause it for more than 45 minutes I have to close the app completely and restart it for it to work again Sometimes when starting the app the hourly news will be skipped and will jump into other stories I would give it 5 stars if they fix most of the bugs in this app     Great app crashes too much
I would really enjoy listening to this App as I enjoy the news and NPR stories however it has an issue where it will freeze or pause during a segment for a few seconds and then come back to the story Please fix        Wish it would work better has an issue
I love this app Id pay money for this                 Id pay money for this
Great app But when I want to share a story it outputs a vague link with no description of what youve linked to And when you click it its just the radio story It should be the audio version and transcript as if it were a link directly to the nprorg story Please fix        Better sharing output
Infinitely better than the old app Way more user friendly                 Vast improvement
When I press the pause button on my iPhone earbuds the program pauses for an instant and then restarts Otherwise its a great program for getting my NPR fix              One glitch
Joy to use gives news and relevant podcasts etc                 Phenomenal
It worked for a while but then it started playing the call sign over and over again the skipping like a record over and over on the call sign I couldnt hear any stories after that Had to delete it        Its skips and skips and skips
This app is constantly helping me discover stories I would never have thought to look for or perspectives on big stories that go beyond the typical news Im constantly thinking Wow or Neat or some other exclamation My wife and I are constantly sharing stories because neither of us had heard anything about the topic on news or late night shows The best part about it though is that it adapts and tries to just queue up stories you show interest in Even for people who wouldnt normally think of themselves as NPR listeners if you give this app a try you might find some amazing stories that really make you or give you a good laugh I mean I would NEVER have thought I would be looking nice forward to stories from a show called Planet Money but I find myself absorbed in these great stories in my morning walk when they popup                 So pleased
The app made me listen to commercials and then had the nerve to ask for a donation You can do one or the other NPR but not both What happened to the days of commercial free listening that I used to donate generously to support     Deleted it after one day
The app is great I love that it starts as soon as you open it right off with the news that matters globally and then locally It pulls in my local channel with easy and sprinkles it with different segments from npr at large Great work npr                 npr For the Modern Ages
I love npr podcasts but already after 5mins I had to remove this app I live in an area where high speed LTE connections are always available and I can stream even netflix without issues while on the go but this app stops every 10sec to load a new segment This destroys the entire listening experience Please fix it or better offer a download feature     Poor podcast streaming solution
I like NPRs news coverage but I miss being able to focus my listening on say politics or education or technology With this app I have an endless stream of news stories without any categorization Its like trying to drink all of the water in a lak It cod go one forever I will probably spend most of my listening hours on podcasts        Too Simplistic
Very surprised this got just 3 stars overall I dl several other apps for npr before this one due to lower stars but I think this is fantastic I wanted streaming Npr from a local station and this delivers Local station is WHYY                 Deserves more stars
Crashes The volume also totally cuts out while the app is supposedly playing     Crashing volume cuts on iOS 9
Badly needs an option for audio compression These raw feeds usually get compressed to a flat line by the broadcasting radio station Here and in most NPR podcast feeds the audio levels are all over the place and are often inaudible while driving Please add this feature              Pretty slick
I love the thought behind this app you can mark thighs as interesting swipe through stories and be peddled the news Its interactive and will tell you to click the app to show photos relating to the story Super cool                 Pandora for your radio listening but DM free
I use this app all the time The variety of stories and content is really impressive In addition the app is really well designed and attractive It has never crashed and Ive never had a single problem with it One of my absolute favorite apps Well done                 Absolutely fantastic
I am a long time listener of NPR and user of the original app I downloaded this and frankly I dont get what is NPR trying to do It is nice it can learn but some control is needed if I like something I want a way to get back to it I want to create a list of things I want to listen in the future If the point is to integrate a donate button or to do better tracking from users to generate data then is a big flop then maybe theres an audience but if the goal of this is to enhance the NPR experience it is a total flop        Dont get it
im worried about the signing in as well     the bad reviews seem valid
Really great app It definitely learns as you listen it knows I loooove Backstory in a way I wouldnt admit to it willingly but will also play something new and unique occasionally to give something else to try Starts up quickly and plays nicely with other apps when they interrupt                 Only way I listen to NPR now
Too many appeals for financial support I know there have to be some but this is excessive No way to thumbs down stories Apparently skipping doesnt do much I have skipped the same article six times in less than three hours of use Im going back to the NPR news app where I have actual control of content     Lacking
Thanks NPR Fantastic original content Youre the best way to wake up                 U R Great Murcans
I love it I just wish I could deselect the interesting option if I accidentally pressed it              Great app
Update 924 the swiping is still annoying and unreliable It took me 20 seconds once to get a story to stop scrolling and recognize my click Sigh Ive had zero good experiences with this app My review should be weighted as I have 508 apps installed Im an app junky Example 1 I click an NPR link from an email it opens in NPR one and didnt play the story Example 2 I try finding the story by having to navigate an overly complicated mess of swipingstoppingrepeat I tap on the story and it either aswipes to a different story or b places an entirely different story What a mess     A miserable navigation experience
I know these stories are sourced from all different member stations around the country but the app needs to have better control with the volume levels of each story I have to constantly adjust my car stereos volume after each story Sometimes its too quiet and I need to turn it up and other times I get blasted with the beginning of a new story and I have to turn it down Cant these stories have their volume normalized        Good Content but the volume needs better control
I turn it on and it works with decent quality                 1010
Fantastic app awesome Pandoralike Leanback experience Just wish there was an iPad adaptation                 Wish there was an iPad adaptation
Great concept Good execution I listen most mornings while I get ready But since midJul the hourly newscast has disappeared Help           Where did the hourly newscast go
Well the incessant crashing has finally stopped but the interesting and follow podcast features seem a bit backwards Ive noticed that liking a particular story never really seems to increase how often similar topics appear Even more frustrating is it seems that telling the app you like a particular podcast seems to banish it forever from the app Since this feature was added Ive noticed that I no longer hear TAL RadioLab TED Invisibilia or others I told the app I like I do however get absolutely BOMBARDED with On Point replays Seriously this app pushes On Point harder than a crack dealer Its gotten so bad that within 10 minutes of starting the app On Point launches in Skipping it does nothing simply offering up yet another episode of On Point every single time Please NPR add some variety here Im sick and tired of the On Point love affair     Needs a Dislike feature
The NPR One app works fine on the iPhone but it will not start up on Apple Watch It crashes each and every time I attempt to open it     WatchOS 2 App Does Not Work
If the stories you like most are NPR advertising itself then youre in for a treat If you listen to NPR for say information then stick with another platform with more information and less constant repetition of advertising NPR One uses much of its time touting itself but cant do anything useful such as letting you choose categories of stories avoid programs you dislike or use a competent search function     nPR Ad Platform
Great app                 Fantastic
Its amazing how much content NPR produces and at such a high quality Its all here                 Endless entertainment and information
Excellent                 Excellent app
If you bear in mind what this app is intended to be and what its not you should be very happy using it NPR One is essentially a replacement for normal radio listening that adjusts over time to your listening preferences I appreciate the small details Skipping programs doesnt mean youll never hear them again you can skip without anxiety The audio starts as soon as the app opens theres no unnecessary play button Thoughtful Local stations are given full consideration with local stories and station callouts Content is a mixture of current news stories and podcasts or portions of podcasts Kudos to NPR on an excellent design                 Great way to listen to NPR
I like the concept of the app but is has several bugs that can make it frustrating 1 It starts a story for about 2 seconds then skips to its self promotion Sometimes playing for 23 times before returning to the shows 2 It replays stories that I chose to skip 3 If I choose to send a link by email and it pauses because the audio became unavailable a message pops up in front of the email and the whole thing freezes Solution kill app 4 If I listen then pause as I go into a place with wifi and come back the networking switch freezes the app Solution kill it 5 If I turn up the volume to hear a story the next story blows me away 6 It needs a way to skip forward by 30 seconds or a minute           Great idea bug buggy
It would be great to be able to choose topics and have a curated queue Instead I have to go through and swipe everything but I want to see     Not very intuitive
